The Romans travelled to Leicester on the 28^th March, to take part in a pre season scrimmage against the Leicester Falcons. Although not a full on game, the organised scrimmage would give both sides some pointers as to where they were up to with their respective pre season plans. As challenges go, for the Romans this was a big one. The Falcons were the Division 2 National Champions, and were gearing up for the upcoming assault on Division 1.

Even though this was a friendly there was no quarter given, as each side endeavoured to use all the players at their disposal, with many trying to get themselves a starting spot for the season.

The Romans defence had another solid day, with each team getting ten plays, it can be difficult to keep out a good offence for a sustained amount of plays. The Romans didn’t manage to keep the Falcons out of the end zone completely, but against the National Champions, showed that they will cause many of their opponents this year, a few headaches, literally. The Defence performed excellently as a unit and came away with three interceptions on the day.

Chester’s Offence slightly edged it in terms of improvement however. In 2009 the Offence often stuttered and didn’t perform to its capabilities, on Sunday they showed that even against a big, powerful defence they could move the ball, through the air and on the ground. It bodes well for the season that, not only does the team have three Quarterbacks, but that each one showed what they were about against the Falcons, each bringing something different to the Offence.

The MVP for the day went to the ‘French Flyer’ Nadgy Khirat with 2 Interceptions and numerous tackles.

This was without doubt a great showing by all of the Romans players, there is still some work to be done, but the foundation blocks are in place.
