Romans Academy Celebrate Season
The Romans Youth and Junior teams celebrated their end of season awards evening this past Friday. The evening was attended by around 70 coaches, players and parents who celebrated a season that saw both Youth and Junior teams reach the National Finals in their respective divisions.
Youth Awards on the night for Offense went to Wide Receiver Jordan Brady-Williams, Quarterback Alex Ross and Centre Harvey Mckeever who picked up rookie of the year after starting every game in his first year with the team.
Youth Defensive Awards went to
Linebacker Reece Jones, safety Rhys Astrop and Linebacker Oli Taylor who
picked up Coaches Player award with his outstanding commitment on and
off the pitch throughout the season. The Defense also weighed in with
most improved player going to Defensive back Jack Stephenson and Lineman
of the year going to Nose Tackle Callum Bright.
Junior awards on the night went to first year Quarterback Freddie Long along with Linemen Alex Williams and Alex Baldry who had an outstanding season starting on both Offensive and Defensive lines.
On Defense Linebacker Luca Guzzo and Defensive back Oliver Willett both picked up awards along with Dan Davenport who picked up the graduating player award after moving up to the Junior side and playing both Running back and Linebacker.
The final award was the Junior Most Valuable Player Shield that was first presented in 1989 to the original Romans junior team and has been passed down each year. This award went to Oliver Willett who, after graduating from the youth squad, took on the captaincy role and showed outstanding leadership.
Well done to all players and parents on a successful year. It was a total team effort!
Both Youth and Junior teams will also be recruiting at the rookie events over November and December so if you are between the ages of 13 and 19 and want to try American Football make sure you come down and give it a go.
